K-9
|
The Cody Police Department began a K-9 program in 1996, when Dax, a Belgian Malinois, joined the Department as a partner for Chan Richard. Dax was purchased with monies from a Federal grant along with the generous donations of various organizations and individuals in Cody, who were committed to making drug enforcement a priority in our community.
Our Present K-9 program consists of two teams. Jon Beck is our senior K-9 handler and works with his dog Max. Max is a yellow lab that was trained in narcotics detection in Fort Collins Colorado. Jon and Max started working together in 2002 and have been very active on our war against drugs. Jon became a K-9 trainer in March of 2004 and trained our second team which is comprised of Beau Egger and his yellow lab Abby. Jon is presently working with a third dog and handler for the department to give 24 hour access to the canine units.
The dogs live at home with their handlers. Although the City funds the feed, medical care and kennel cost, the handlers and their families put in many hours of care and love for the dogs and are very much a part of their families. 2 |
