In 1998, the Cody Police Department received a grant through the U.S. Department of Justice C.O.P.S. program to help fund placing an officer within our schools. Currently, Officer Rick Dutcher works in that position, primarily in the high school and middle school, but also visits the three grade schools.

The schools are his "neighborhood beat", which embodies the Community Policing philosophy by partnering with the School District to keep our youth safe, and focused on education. Officer Dutcher serves many roles as the Resource Officer. In addition to his responsibilities as a law enforcement officer, Rick acts as teacher, counselor, and mentor within the school community. His presence acts to deter crime and promote positive relations between students and the police.

Not only is Officer Dutcher available for the students for advise in both school and home situations, he is also available for the parents who have concerns regarding their children.  He can be reached at the high school at 899-3104.
